Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi (October 13, 1958 – disappeared October 2, 2018) was a Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist, author and the former general manager and editor-in-chief of Al Arab News Channel.

He was missing and allegations have been made that he was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul some time between October 2 and 7, 2018.

He was internationally respected for his contributions to Al Watan for becoming a platform for Saudi progressives.

He fled Saudi Arabia on September 18 , 2017,and has been regularly posting articles critical to his home country.

Khashoggi was a high-profile critic of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammad bin Salman. He has also criticized Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen.

Khashoggi was detained in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018.

According to Turkish sources, they believe that Khashoggi was then brutally tortured for several days and later killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul by a 15-member "murder" team brought in from Saudi Arabia for the operation.

Turkish sources claim that the ordeal was videotaped, his dead body chopped to pieces and quietly moved out of the consulate.
